They told him about the nature of their work and the toxic hiring and firing policies that threatened their stability. They confessed to him that when the crisis hit in 2008, they stockpiled food, converted their money into gold, and prepared to send their children to the countryside. By the end of the book, Joris arrives at a chilling conclusion: what if these people aren't the real enemy? What if the reality of the financial world is far more sinister?
