"Composiciones bajo tierra" aborda aspectos clave de la abstracción prehispánica tal como resuenan en diferentes momentos del arte moderno y contemporáneo. De esta manera, los textiles andinos, los atuendos propios de las ceremonias selk'nam, y las líneas de Nasca son abordados a la luz de la enseñanza y obra del artista alemán Josef Albers, la abstracción geométrica de comienzos del siglo XX, y el Land Art norteamericano, respectivamente. La mirada detrás de estos textos no es la del teórico o historiador del arte, sino la del artista visual, por lo que las interpretaciones
que encontramos son más arriesgadas, pero también abiertamente tentativas, tal como debieraser todo ensayo en tanto tal.
"Compositions Under the Soil" addresses key aspects in pre-Hispanic abstraction and how they resonate through different periods of Modern and Contemporary Art. Therefore the Andean textiles, the ceremonial Selk'nam attires, and the Nasca Lines are approached in the light of the work and teachings of German artist Josef Albers, the early 20th century Geometric Abstraction, and the North American Land Art correspondingly. The gaze behind these texts is not one of an art theorist or historian, but the one of a visual artist, therefore the interpretations are riskier and openly tentative, as every essay as such be.
Über Gerardo Pulido
Gerardo Pulido es artista (1975, Santiago de Chile). Ha exhibido su trabajo en Bogotá, Boston, Buenos Aires, Londres, Nueva York, Melbourne, Washington D.C. y otras ciudades. Realizó estudios de posgrado en educación artística (DEA, 2005) en la Universidad de Sevilla, España. Es licenciado y postitulado en arte por la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2002 y 1999, respectivamente).
Se desempeña como profesor en la Escuela de Arte de esta última institución (UC) y desde el 2009 es co-fundador y miembro de Taller BLOC (Chile).
Ha recibido distintos reconocimientos, entre ellos, el premio de "mejor profesor" en diferentes universidades (años 2012, 2011 y 2008, Chile), la Beca AMA (Fundación AMA, Chile, 2008) y la Beca MAE (AECID, España, 2005-2003).
Cofundó la revista Índice, documento de arte y crítica e integró su comité editorial (2001-1997,Chile). Esporádicamente, publica entrevistas o reseñas sobre la obra de distintos artistas.
Chilean artist Gerardo Pulido (1975, Santiago) has shown his work in Bogotá, Boston, Buenos Aires, London, New York, Melbourne, Washington D.C. and other cities. He completed postgraduate studies in artistic education (DEA, 2005) at the Universidad de Sevilla, Spain. He is a graduate and postgraduate alumn of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile's Art School (1999 and 2002,
respectively) where he now teaches. In 2009 he co-founded and is still a member of Taller BLOC (Chile). He has received several awards, among others: the Teaching Excellence Award from different universities (2008, 2011, and 2012, Chile), the AMA Fellowship (AMA Foundation, Chile, 2008), and the MAE Scholarship (AECID, Spain, 2003-2005). He co-founded and is part of the editorial committee of magazine Índice, documento de arte y crítica (1997-2001, Chile). From time to time he publishes interviews and reviews on the work of different artists.
